Hawaii Chocolates

Originally from Oregon, Dr. Michael Purdy and his wife Gwen moved to Maui to start practicing dentistry in 1983. However, two years after, Gwen found herself an entrepreneur in her own way. She opened Maui’s Best retail store where hand-dipping chocolates delighted customers and was a special feature.

The brand Island Princess then emerged afterwards. It was an instant hit with visitors to Maui and locals alike. When they expanded into factory opening, Michael practiced dentistry during the day and producing chocolate concoctions by night, thus, acquiring the nickname “The Choc Doc.” Due to increasing demands, Michael gave up his dental practice and focus on developing the business. Island Princess later relocated to Honolulu to attend to great need for a larger labor pool and more expedient shipping.

Island Princess Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts are cultivated with strict compliance to USA farming laws to insure their quality and purity. Island Princess’ Macadamia Popcorn Crunch was voted “the best caramel corn in the United States” by National Food Distributors Magazine.
